What are the Practice Exams?
The Practice Exams are 125-question multiple-choice tests with a stem,
correct answer and three distractors.
The questions appear individually in the testing window. You may take as
long as you wish for each question, but you cannot go back to a question
once an answer has been entered. You will advance to the next question
by entering an answer, but you cannot leave a question unanswered. Each
Practice Exam conforms to the outline published in the 2008
Candidate Handbook by the Council on
Certification of Nurse Anesthetists (CCNA).
What is the advantage of taking the Practice Exams?
The Practice Exams are designed to find academic areas of strength and
weakness and also to give the examinee hands-on experience in
computerized exam taking techniques and strategies.
What are the Topic Exams?
The Topic Exams are 50 to 100-question exams in specialized topics, such as
pharmacology and anesthesia equipment. The Topic Exams operate just
like the Practice Exams, but with fewer questions that are restricted to
one topic. Our line of Topic Exams is expanding, so if you don't see
a particular exam you want to take, check back with us soon.
What is the advantage of taking the Topic Exams?
The Topic Exams allow the evaluation of academic skills in various
areas of study while simultaneously offering experience in board-like
computerized exam taking.
Where did the questions come from?
Each test question was authored by a faculty member of Core Concepts
Anesthesia Review, LLC. The faculty has been teaching, testing and
preparing student registered nurse anesthetists for board examination for over 20 years.
Are the questions representative of the questions on the boards?
The faculty of Core Concepts Anesthesia Review, LLC has made every
effort to offer questions of similar difficulty and complexity as those
found on board examinations.
How are the Practice Exams given?
After you subscribe to one of the Practice Exams you will be issued a
user name and password, usually within 24 hours, by email. By logging in you can take the exam with
your internet browser.
What happens when the Practice Exam is completed?
Upon completion of the exam you will receive a score expressed as a
percentage of correct questions, the time you took to complete the exam and a list of your correct and incorrect responses.
In addition, the Practice Exams offer a Pass Probability.
How do I interpret my score?
The score given at the end of the exam is a percentage of questions you answered correctly. In
addition to the score, with each Practice Exam, a Pass Probability is also given. This number reflects the percent chance
that your score would be a passing score on the National Certification
Examination. For example, if your Pass Probability is 0.8, approximately 80% of previous
Practice Exam takers with your score went on to pass the National Certification Examination.
The Pass Probability is only an estimation of your results based on the results of
former Practice Exam takers and not a guarantee of success or failure on the
actual exam. Due to the limited nature of the question material, the
Pass Probability feature is available only on the Practice Exams and is
not a feature on the Topic Exams.
How do I review my answers?
You will be offered the complete list of the questions on your exam for your
review. You can reference questions you answered either incorrectly or
correctly. All answers offer a rationale as well as a reference
for further investigation if you choose.
How many times can I take a Practice or Topic Exam?
You can take the exam only once per subscription, but you can review
your answers for not less than fourteen days after completing the exam. If you wish to re-take an examination, you can re-subscribe as
many times as you wish.
How many Practice Exams are available?
Currently there are 3 Practice Exams available. We now also offer
several Topic Exams designed to improve you knowledge and computerized
test-preparedness in selected areas of study.
Who can subscribe to the Practice Exams?
Anyone! We believe the Practice Exams offer valuable preparation for
the student registered nurse anesthetist preparing for board examination
as well as the practicing CRNA preparing for re-certification or just
looking for a general review of important anesthesia topics.
What happens after I subscribe to a Practice Exam?
After subscribing you will be issued a user name and password.
This will be sent to you by email within 3 business days, but usually in
less than 24 hours. With your user name and password you will be able to
login and take your Practice Exam as well as review your answers.
Can I try a sample Practice Exam to see if it is right for me?
Sure, a
5-question Sample Exam is available.
What are the system requirements for the Practice Exams?
The Practice Exams will run on Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher, AOL
Browser 1.5 or higher, Netscape 8.0.3 or higher, Konqueror 3.5.4 or
higher, Flock 1.2 or higher Google Chrome 0.2 or higher, and Firefox 1.0.4 or higher.
The Practice Exams do not run properly on
the Opera or Safari browsers. The Practice Exams also require a screen
size of 800 x 600 or greater to be properly viewed.
Will the Practice Exams run on my PDA, Blackberry or SmartPhone?
Yes, if your device has internet access and a compatible browser (see
above), it will be able to run the Practice Exams.
How can I be sure the Practice Exam will work on my
system?
We recommend using the
Sample
Exam prior to purchasing a Practice Exam. The Sample Exam has almost
all the system requirements as the Practice Exam. If you are
satisfied with the performance of the Sample Exam, the Practice Exam
should work fine for you.
What happens after I enter my login information?
After you login, the Practice Exam begins the process of setting up an exam, a
grading system and the Pass Probability feature for your test. This process
can take up to 1 minute to complete, so please be patient when logging into
a Practice Exam. If your login is unsuccessful for any reason, you will
receive that information from the login screen. Login difficulties can often
be resolved by closing and re-starting your browser.
Why did my Practice Exam not start when I clicked on 'Begin Exam'?
The Practice Exam opens a separate window to display your test and
results and requires that cookies be accepted by your browser. Some pop-up blockers prevent the opening of other browser
windows. Be sure to disable your pop-up blocker software before starting a
Practice Exam.
What do I do if my Practice Exam gets stuck on a question?
The Practice Exam depends on an intact internet connection to deliver
the questions. If your internet connection is lost, the next question cannot be sent to your
computer. If the disconnection is temporary, a press of the 'Esc' key
followed by the 'F5' key should refresh the window
and allow you to re-enter your response and move to the next question. Alternatively, you
can re-start the Practice Exam.
